Pooh and Christopher Robin : ]Pooh Facts!
- Pooh was an 18in-high Alpha Farnell teddy bear bought from Harrods for Christopher Robin on his first birthday. He cost 10/6d and had a mechanism inside him that meant he could growl.
- At first he was called Mr Edward Bear, after the proper form of Teddy. He was renamed after a real bear called Winnie at London Zoo.
- ‘Winnie’ was short for ‘Winnipeg’
- n the ‘sport’ of Poohsticks, competitors drop sticks into a stream from a bridge and then wait to see whose stick will float across the finish line first. This game was played for real by Christopher Robin.
- A.A. Milne, Christopher Robin and the illustrator E.H. Shepard all came to resent Winnie the Pooh
- Pooh is patron saint of teddy bears.
- Since the 1970s, Pooh Bear has been voiced by three actors: Sterling Holloway, Hal Smith and Jim Cummings.
