More random facts about me:
I love Cinderella, you'll find out just how much
I've only been to Disney once when I was 7 and I've been dying to go back so this program is perfect!
As I briefly mentioned in my last post, I have a boy. We've been together almost 4 years and he is doing the program with me so we will actually be celebrating our anniversary in Disney! He'll probably be mentioned a lot so just giving you a head's up.
Ok, today I'll talk about my role; Quick Service Food & Beverage (QSFB)
According to my sources (AKA the DCP website) these are my potential responsibilities ...
- Selling food and beverages at outdoor carts and/or indoor restaurants
- Taking & filling orders
- Multi-tasking; preparing & assembling food items in a kitchen area, including the use of a fryer, grill, broiler, & other industrial cooking equipment
- Cash-handling- both manual and using computerized registers
- Bussing tables, cleaning kitchen & counter equipment, emptying trash cans, setting & stocking tables
- Dispensing & selling alcoholic beverages
- Working outdoor carts & in restaurants; heavy lifting, pushing heavy carts, working with cleaning chemicals
- Working independently or as part of a large team, standing for extended periods and working outdoors
We're also not allowed to wear any jewelery or nail polish or have long nails. The no jewelery thing I'm going to have a problem with. I wear the same necklace and ring every day and I feel naked when I take them off, but I guess I'll have to get over it, womp womp. Since I'm graduating (fingers crossed) in May, I don't need to take classes for college credit so I'm hoping to work as much as I can. We can put in requests to work in specific parks but there's no guarantee that we'll get what we ask for. I'm secretly hoping for a restaurant job in Magic Kingdom, simply because it's open longer and there's a chance of working longer. I also heard a rumor that you can get a pay raise if you work there; I'm in college, I'm broke, money is my friend. However, if I got a cart job it would give me a chance to get a tan and anyone from New England knows that when the sun is out, you take advantage. With my luck it'd rain all day.
Everything else I've heard or read about QSFB is that you either hate it or love it. I've worked in food services before so I know that people can be a pain and they're going to blame you for things that you can't control but you can't let it get to you and ruin your day, it's just one person. I also know that if you find just one person that's fun to work with, it makes the day fly by. The work schedules vary but I know the days are long and I could be working 11 hours shifts for days in a row so I hope I find someone fun that's working with me. I've also heard that there's an increased chance of getting injured by working QSFB, which totally makes sense. Burns, cuts, I read about one girl getting hit in the neck from something falling on her and she was taken out on a stretcher ... that's not scary at all. I'm small and I rather not get crushed by flying objects but hey, the things I do for Disney! I'll find out more about the role when I get there and go through training, until then I'll just keep being anxious.
